Nov. 21 2011: Teacher feature: Renee Fallon’s patent portfolio

Orignally published on:

The next time you visit a store and see nicotine patches on the shelves, you may want to thank AP Biology teacher Renee Fallon for helping to make them a reality.

Fallon worked as a researcher for several biotechnology companies, dedicating most of her time to studying drug delivery systems and eventually amassing seven patents over two decades.

The inventions include a stick-on patch that delivers timed doses of heart medication and a method to mass-produce liposomes.

Fallon’s background as a researcher continues to inspire her and affect her teaching style.
